Un_Compressed

Three-channel installation investigating analog means of communication through the format of digital video. Through the use of the conventional language of the digital video, the work dissects its formal elements to bypass the inevitable compressed selective format it holds.

The piece explores the idea that we can re-examine our relationship with technology and its effects on our perception by revealing some of the analog forms of communication in digital media. While media goes through compression before its distribution, it loses, I argue, important information that includes references to the analog form of communication, vital to our senses in perception of the reality.

The viewer has a choice to focus their attention on one or more of the three videos available along with three audio soundtracks. Through nine possible combinations of audio/visual juxtapositions the piece offers the viewer a role of creative editor in their personal experience.
